Exploring lindos by kayak
We head down to Lindos’ main beach where our explorations of the coastal area will begin. Before getting into the water, the beauty of the rocky landscape, dominated by the ancient city’s acropolis, will have enchanted you.
We row around the rocky inlets in the bay, with the acropolis on the right, dominated by the temple dedicated to the goddess Athena.
The landscape shimmers from the stark white of Lindos’ traditional houses. The town is now a UNESCO-protected monument.
We cross the mouth of the bay from one edge to the other and find ourselves in the shadow of the ancient temple of Athena that dates from the 4th century BC.
Towering vertical rocks rise from the sea on our right as we head south towards the elongated bay of Agios Pavlos. We cross the entrance to the bay, which forms a natural harbour, and enter the bay via the small channel that has developed between two rock formations.
The acropolis stands behind us on the top of the hill as we enter the natural harbour of Agios Pavlos bay. In front of us the chapel dedicated to St. Paul dominates. Couples from all over the world who love Lindos often choose it for their wedding.
The two small sandy beaches here are packed with people enjoying the sun and calm waters.
We head back north towards Lindos Bay, to enjoy a swim and snorkel in the shadow of the rock where Kleoboulos, one of the seven sages of antiquity, lies buried.
Opposite, the skyline is dominated by the acropolis of the ancient city of Lindos.
Having enjoyed glorious Lindos from this unique perspective, we carefully row towards the packed main beach where our excursion is rounded off with a glass of ouzo and some small Greek mezes.
