Butterfly route
The tour starts off near the Valley of the Butterflies. We follow a rural asphalt road that is almost car-free, so that we can enjoy the beautiful landscape covered in pine trees and olive trees.
We then start ascending a dirt road that leads to a small church in the middle of the forest. The views to the west coast of Rhodes are astounding from this vantage point.
We then descend to visit another small church dating from the 16th century. Along the way we have the chance to observe nature at its best and to learn about local religious traditions.
Following a dirt road among orange and olive groves, we stop in a small village where you can taste an authentic Greek coffee at a traditional coffee shop known in Greek as a “kafeneio”.
We continue by cycling along a quite flat dirt road, traversing small villages in the interior of the island till we enter uphill and downhill dirt roads in the forest of Filerimos.
Those wishing to continue can ascend by bike to Filerimos. Those wishing to stop can get a lift in the car and visit the archaeological site located there. The team will then meet up again in Filerimos. After a short break, we descend by bike or by car to the beach at Ialysos for lunch on the beach.
